For more than 20 years, U.S. News and World Report has ranked Mercer in the top universities in the South. This year Mercer chose to be included in the National Ranking and achieved #135. In addition, the University was selected as the #24 'Best Valued School' while its Engineering Program is #42 in the nation. Meanwhile, The Princeton Review has placed Mercer in the top 15% of all universities nationwide.

Mercer University's long list of notable alumni includes 12 Governors, 4 U.S. Senators and a U.S. Attorney General.

Recent student-faculty initiatives include: The College Hill Alliance, an active economic and residential revival of historic Macon; The Sex Trafficking Opposition Project, leading the fight against human trafficking to free enslaved and provide support for survivors; Caring for Creation, an effort to heighten awareness and encourage action on issues of climate change; Local Engagement Against Poverty, an initative to address the needs of those living below the poverty line; Lyceum, a program to address the health of American democracy and civic life. Mercer students also gain experience through internships. Nearly half of all Mercer students apply what they've learned to their field of study before they graduate. At Mercer Engineering Research Center, students work closely with scientists and engineers, contributing to their knowledge while advancing their studies.

Campus features

The Macon campus houses the College of Liberal Arts, the Eugene W. Stetson School of Business and Economics, the Tift College of Education, The Townsend School of Music, The School of Engineering and The School of Medicine. Mercer's performing arts center - The Grand Opera House - is one mile (1.6 km) from main campus. The Walter F. George School of Law is located on its own campus, one mile (1.6 km) from the main campus. Also part of the main campus is the Jack Tarver Library, the broadcast studio WMUM-FM and the football stadium (10,200 seats). The University Center houses the athletic department, a 3,500 seat basketball arena, an indoor pool, work-out facilities, intramural basketball courts, an air-rifle range, offices, food court and numerous meeting facilities. Mercer's baseball, softball and intramural fields are next to the center along with the universities tennis complex and football-lacrosse complex. More than 8,300 students (approx. 4,500 undergraduates and approx. 3,800 postgraduates) from 46 states and 51 countries. Approximately 2,300 undergraduates attend the Macon campus while the majority of postgraduate programs are on the Atlanta campus. English Language Institute (ELI) is located on the Atlanta campus.
