Marking System:

A 60 is a passing grade, and passed Upper School classes are granted credit on that basis, but a minimum grade of 70 is required before a student may progress to the next level in a math or language class.Failure of the second semester of a cumulative course (math, science, history, English or language) will result in failure of the entire course, regardless of the first semester grade.Saint Andrew's Sewamee School utilizes the standard grading system: A=90-100; B=80-89; C=70-79; D=60-69; F=0-59

Graduation Requirements:

The minimum graduation requirements for grades 9 through 12 are as follows:

  • English - 4 credits
  • Mathematics - 3 credits (beginning with Algebra 1; 4 credits recommended)
  • Science - 3 credits (Conceptual Physics, Chemistry, Biology)
  • History - 3 credits (US History)
  • Language - 2 credits (consecutive in the same language)
  • Arts - 1 credit
  • Religion - 1 credit (Introduction to Religious Studies)
  • Wellness - 1 credit (Health and Fitness/Life Issues)
  • Electives - 2 credits Community Service - 15 hours per year enrolled

Winterim is a one week program for the entire St. Andrew's-Sewanee community to shift its attention from the reguar academic routine to intensive courses of study that are dedicated to experimental and experiential learning in the following workshops: Academic, Arts, Cinema, Community, Hobby, Life Skills, Outdoor Adventure and Sports. Dual-Enrollment opportunities at University of the SouthStudents are encouraged to pursue dual-enrollment at the nearby, nationally ranked University of the South. Known as a small school with a large reputation.

Campus features

St. Andrew's-Sewanee School is located on top of Cumberland Plateau, a wooded 550 acre (222 hectare) campus providing numerous opportunities for outdoor adventure. Academic & Art Facilities: Bishop Bratton Hall, McCrory Hall for the Performing Arts, Reishman-Chamberlain Wing, Simmonds Hall, Theatre, Wade Hall for Sciences Student Life Facilities: Owen Student Union, Robinson Dining Hall, SAS Farm, St. Andrew's Chapel, Tucker Dining Room Athletics & Recreational Facilities: The Wood-Alligood Gymnasium includes a basketball court with bleachers, the Goldfinch Wrestling Room, a state-of-the-art weight room, and indoor batting cage, Outdoor facilities include a baseball field, six competitive tennis cours, a 400-meter all-weather 6-lane track surronding a football/soccer field. Swimmers use the indoor pool at the Fowler Center of the University of the South and the golf team untilizes the University's 9-hole golf course. Horseback riders take advantage of the University of the South's Howell Riding Facility which includes 48 stalls, and indoor arena and two outdoor arenas. Students also have acess to the University of the South's Robert Dobbs Fowler Sports and Fitness Center which houses an 8 lane 25 yard swimming pool complete with diving well, racquetball, handball, squash, volleyball and basketball courts, indoor tennis courts and indoor track and a climbing wall.
